The Yorkshire West District of the Methodist Church require a youth and community worker to be part of a small team responsible for running the ONE Opportunity programme that will employ and train young people within the Methodist District.
Primarily home based, responsibilities include, but are not limited to, attending team meetings, promoting the scheme, facilitating the recruitment, mentoring possible applicants, preparation and delivery of training materials for those involved in the scheme and encouraging communication amongst the young people between events and across the District.
You should be educated to at least Dip HE standard in Youth and Community work, or have a theological qualification with evidence of at least three years' experience of working in a youth context. You must be competent in the use of Microsoft programs (or equivalent), and able to develop and present training materials within a church and community context, be willing and able to work flexibly, including overnight, and weekends, when necessary, and able to manage your own time and priorities. An ability to communicate with people of all ages and backgrounds, with good oral and written skills, is essential, together with an ability to motivate, encourage relationships and confidence in others. You should be confident in leading prayer and worship and embrace and advocate the ethos of the Methodist Church as expressed through 'Our Calling' and 'Priorities of the Methodist Church'.
The post holder will be subject to a 3-month probationary period and necessary Safeguarding checks. The basic rate of pay is £13.06 per hour for an average of 10 hours per week. The total number hours expected for the role would be no more than 520 hours per annum. There is a Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR) that the post-holder is a practising Christian.
The appointment is offered as a 3-year fixed term. Interviews for the post are planned to be held in week commencing 26th February 2018, with the role commencing from 1st April 2018.
