The Church Council of Otley Methodist Church recently made the very difficult decision to seek permission to sell their premises.
Dating from the 1870's the church building is Grade II listed and includes several halls and offices in addition to the main sanctuary.
It is a very formal building, originally built to seat many hundreds of worshippers. An expansive and very impressive structure, it is extremely expensive to maintain. The sanctuary is not easily adaptable to contemporary worship or hosting events.
Whilst there is great sadness involved in making this decision, this is not the end of the road for the Methodist presence and mission in Otley. Indeed, the town has a number of former Methodist churches from which the community moved when their needs changed.
God has a plan for the people of Otley Methodist Church, and we can't wait to find out what it includes!
