“New Places for New People” is the Methodist Church’s movement to create fresh, flexible, and mission – focussed Christian communities away from the traditional church setting.

Society has changed and the long serving model of the Sunday morning worship doesn't work for many families. For many, it's just another day of the week

Rather than expecting newcomers to adapt to inherited church structures, "New Places for New People" is an initiative where new worshipping and gathering spaces will meet people where they are.

The movement emphasizes listening deeply to local contexts, building relationships first, and shaping discipleship around the needs of people who may never walk into a conventional church building.

Ultimately, “New Places for New People” aims to renew the church by growing fresh expressions of Methodist life that help people encounter Christ in ways that feel authentic, accessible, and relevant today.

The Slice of Life youth project at Burley in Wharfedale Methodist Church is a pioneering Christian outreach community centered around a converted mobile pizza horsebox.

Every Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 PM, dozens of young people aged 11 to gather to eat fresh pizza and connect with each other.

The initiative provides practical amenities like phone charging hubs and hot drinks, alongside a space where local youth feel structurally supported and valued.

Facilitated by a dedicated volunteer team—including conversationalists, prayer members, and youth kitchen servers—the project has achieved significant community momentum earning formal parliamentary recognition for its local grassroots impact.
